Wasps Legends have built a strong relationship with Switch the Play Foundation. Over the past three years, we have been supporting Switch the Play Foundation through our community grant program, which has funded the delivery of multiple masterclasses and mini masterclasses.
Switch the Play Foundation has delivered the masterclasses to our Wasps Men’s, Wasps Women’s, Wasps Academy and Wasps Netball teams. With topics ranging from Leadership & Corporate Governance to Maximising Your Network and Life After Lockdown, most recently.
Switch the Play Foundation is a charity that helps sportspeople successfully transition to life outside of sport. As stated by Switch the Play Foundation: “Whenever or however it happens, retirement from a life in sport can be difficult. We want to ensure that all sportspeople, irrespective of what they achieved in their sporting careers, are supported in fulfilling their potential outside of sport. The fact that a sporting career could be over by the time someone hits their 30s makes retirement a worrying prospect for many, and without preparation, life can be tough once those sporting days are over.”
We have had some fantastic feedback from some of the Wasps players, as seen below:
- “The most important thing I learnt today was making my mental wellbeing coming out of lockdown a priority. I will take action by creating my own mental training plan.” Wasps Netball Player
- “After this masterclass, I will ensure I have mindfulness as part of my weekly routine. In this session, I particularly liked understanding and recognising when I am stressed and being able to take a minute and relax with the breathing techniques.” James Tunney, Wasps Academy
Going into 2022, we are excited to maintain our partnership with Switch the Play Foundation, allowing us to continue supporting the Wasps Family.
