Wasps Legends donate £2,500 to the Brent Centre for Young People (BCYP).
Donation will support two young people with age-appropriate talking therapy for a full year.
Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation, the past players network of Wasps, men and women, amateur and professional announced today that they have issued a small grant award of £2,500 to the Brent Centre for Young People.
The Brent Centre for Young People (BCYP) provides a range of accessible mental health services for young people aged 11 – 25. This clinical work informs research in adolescent mental health and adolescent breakdown. BCYP has been delivering support to young people with mental health problems and emotional issues for the past 50 years and have grown to become the leading provider of mental health services for young people in the community. BCYP provides a vital service in a non-stigmatising environment to over 550 young people a year – at their Centre in Queen’s Park, in local schools and at the Youth Offending Service.
The £2,500 donation will provide support for two young people for a full year of high-quality age-appropriate talking therapy. The support is aimed at young people who are experiencing serious emotional and mental health difficulties. The therapy addresses feelings of depression or anxiousness, self-harming or eating disorders with the aim of them leading healthier and happier lives.
Dr Maxim de Sauma of the Brent Centre for Young People said of the donation “We are very grateful for the support of the Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation to enable us support 2 young people for an entire year, at a time when it can be so difficult for young people to access support when they need it, and when there is a focus on short-term therapy. As a charity we rely on donations and support from bodies like the Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation and the community to be able to be there for young people when they need help and for how long they need it. Thank you again”
Genevieve Glover, Chair of Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation said of the announcement: “We are very pleased to be supporting the Brent Centre for Young People. Mental health and well-being is so important in today’s world and we need to support our young people to deal with the challenges they face to help them feel more confident and better able to cope with what life throws at them. One in ten young people have a mental health problem and with the NHS at crisis point, it is essential for services, such as those offered by BCYP, to have support to improve the lives of young people.”
