Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation, the past players network of Wasps, men and women, amateur and professional announced today that they have issued a small grant award of £2,000 to Birkenhead Youth Club.

Birkenhead Youth Club helps young people who are socially or economically disadvantaged. The Youth Club is situated in one of the most deprived areas in the country and is open five nights a week. Despite being in a deprived area, the Club is run by volunteers with over 800 members, providing a wide range of activities each night to ensure anti-social behaviour is kept to a low level as local youths are kept of the streets and are engaged in being active developing their social skills.

The £2,000 donation will fund coaches and equipment so the Club can increase its Propulsion Trampolining sessions. Currently the centre can accommodate 24 young people per session, with the small grant donation they will be able to run more sessions accommodating nearly 100 children a week.

Peter Bibby of Birkenhead Youth Club said of the donation: “it is great news for the local youngsters giving them a very enjoyable activity that keeps them fit and allows them to learn new activities and skills.”

Genevieve Glover, Chair of Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation said of the announcement: “We are pleased to be supporting Birkenhead Youth Club. Trampolining is a high energy activity as well as being fun to do. By providing local youth with activities that improve their health and fitness and keeps them out off the streets and out of trouble can only have a positive impact on them as individuals.”
