  • Wasps Legends donate £2,500 to Track Academy.
  • Donation will provide a school holiday activity programme for disadvantaged young people.

Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation, the past players network of Wasps, men and women, amateur and professional announced today that they have issued a small grant award of £2,500 to Track Academy.

Track Academy uses athletics as a hook to engage young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into opportunities to improve education, gain employment, build life skills and confidence and build a lasting habit of physical activity and healthy choices through sport. Track Academy works in Brent, where 1 in 3 children live in poverty, 40% of young people are not in employment, education or training (NEET) and where incomes and employment rates are lower amongst adults than anywhere across the UK.

The £2,500 donation award will support a school holiday programme that will aim to confront the challenges young people face when they are living in poverty and experience difficult household situations. The programme will run term time taster sessions at partner schools to engage young people to sign up to Track Academy, provide athletics and other sports activities and coaching three times a week during every school holiday, while providing education support and mentoring opportunities.

Connie Henry said of the grant: "We are extremely grateful to the Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation for this generous donation. Hundreds of young people in the Brent area will benefit, and we hope that this programme will be the springboard they need to improve their lives through sport.”

Genevieve Glover, Chair of Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation said of the announcement: "Track Academy aim to engage with 400 young people in the long-term to get them into weekly activities. We hope the support our small grant will make to this school holiday programme will provide the encouragement to young people to become engaged and receive ongoing support they need.”
