Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation, the past players network of Wasps men and women, amateur and professional, announced today that their new charity partner for 2016 is the Dallaglio Foundation. The Dallaglio Foundation was founded by former Wasps Captain Lawrence Dallaglio.
Dallaglio led Wasps to five Premiership titles, three League Cups and three European trophies during his 19 years at the club. On retirement in 2008, Dallaglio founded the Dallaglio Foundation in order to use the values of rugby to transform the lives of disengaged young people. The Dallaglio Foundation’s RugbyWorks programme is delivered across 30 Pupil Referral Units and Alternative Provider (AP) schools in England and South Wales, working with young people who have been excluded from mainstream education.
Wasps Legends was created in 2005, with the aim of bringing all past players back to the club. Over the past 10 years, the Legends have helped raise in excess of £700,000 for a variety of causes. Wasps Legends have pledged to raise £25,000 for the Dallaglio Foundation’s RugbyWorks programme through a series of activity throughout the year.
Lawrence Dallaglio, comments “I’m delighted that Wasps Legends has chosen the Dallaglio Foundation as its new charity partner. This new partnership brings together two elements of my life which are incredibly important to me, my charity and Wasps. I was a one club man and committed my career to the club so for the Legends to come together to support something so important to me is incredibly humbling.”
James Harding, Chairman of the Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation, commented, “We are very pleased that our members chose the Dallaglio Foundation as the charity we will support during 2016. Not only is there a link with Lawrence but we are also pleased that there is a Wasps link with one of the schools we will be supporting in Wandsworth through Francis Emeruwa.”
Rachel Roxburgh, Chief Executive of the Dallaglio Foundation, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation over the next year. Their members understand and appreciate the values of game that are so pivotal to our RugbyWorks programme so it’s a complimentary partnership. We’re looking forward to working with the Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation and engaging the members with our work over the coming year.”
