SALARY: £55,000


CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent full-time

Job Description

•          To promote the mission, aims, values and objectives of the Charity
•          To develop high-quality strategies and expansion plans ensuring the alignment with the organisation’s short-term and long-term objectives
•          To develop clear and realistic priorities and milestones
•          To lead the charity fundraising initiatives and strategies
•          To be directly responsible for the charity’s operations and to oversee and ensure the success of all operations
•          To be accountable to the Trustees for all the Charity’s affairs
•          To ensure the organisation fulfils its legal, statutory, and regulatory responsibilities
•          To advise the Trustees on the strategic direction of the organisation and to implement Board decisions

Principal tasks and responsibilities

•          Responsible for all Foundation activities and operations
•          To support the Trustees in developing the Charity’s strategic plans and fundraising development programmes
•          To build the income streams and reserves of the Charity
•          To develop the Charity’s public profile, influence key stakeholders, The Wasps Family and develop or maintain good relationships with other charities and supporters
•          To build an effective working relationship with the Board, and report regularly and honestly to the Board against the approved strategy and objectives, so they are fully aware of progress, shortcomings, opportunities and risks
•          To develop and secure a range of funding strategies to ensure the charity’s sustainability including exploration of potential corporate partnerships, sponsorship, grant funding opportunities
•          To maintain an overview of the messaging and communications of the charity, to ensure that they are effective, consistent with its values and strategy
•          To ensure the organisation’s future staff are focused on achieving its mission and aims and ensure they are motivated and have high morale
•          To represent the organisation to the media and give interviews as and when required
•          To follow the corporate and communication guidelines and include the social media policy and brand guidelines at all times
•          To be responsible for developing relationships with all areas of the Wasps family that include professional, womens, amateur and netball
•          Manage the grant giving process working with all grant recipients to maximise impact of all monies donated
•          To perform any other duties that are reasonably requested


•          To work with the Trustees to ensure that the Charity’s mission is delivered, statutory and regulatory duties are observed and that strategic and operational objectives are implemented in a timely, clear and relevant way
•          To ensure that the Charity’s policies and practices are up to date, relevant and fair in the current environment and that the Charity is managed in line with current best practice
•          To support and service the Trustees, providing them with timely, relevant and transparent information
•          To support the Chair in further developing the Board and its role
•          To work with the Trustees to formulate the annual budget, to ensure that monthly and quarterly financial management information is provided to the Board, to monitor performance against budget and to take necessary corrective action
•          To function and trade the financial operating system ensuring effective invoice management and basic accounting processes are delivered to expectations
•          To ensure that a risk management policy is in place and reviewed quarterly to the Board
•          To ensure an effective complaints system, dealing personally with initial complaints and referring to the designated Trustee where further investigation is required
•          To ensure compliance with employment and equality legislation and accepted good practice
•          To review and extend the Charity’s existing policies and procedures regularly for compliance with relevant regulation and update them as necessary
•          To ensure that the future staff structures and accountabilities develop so that all members of staff understand their key role and their accountability to the Trustees
•          To manage the future staff effectively, providing supervision, support, development and to undertake annual appraisals for all staff
•          To effectively manage all suppliers and Foundation partners being pro-active in the delivery of all agreed objectives
•          To manage and maintain all systems and processes


•          To maintain the required level of confidentiality
•          To ensure that all staff, sponsors, business club members and Commercial partners are respected and valued
•          To uphold the commitment of the organisation to equality and diversity
•          To undertake any other duties as required by the Trustees


•          To develop an agreed strategic marketing and communication plan and be responsible for all activity
•          To be the principal spokesperson for the Charity in all media including face to face opportunities with all stakeholders in order to promote the Charity’s mission and events
•          To ensure that the Charity communicates its messages clearly and persuasively through its written work, website and social media platforms
•          Responsible for the successful delivery of all Charity’s fundraising events and the development of event fundraising development plan
•          To promote and deliver the growth of the commercial partnerships programme
•          To promote growth of our Wasps Legends and Friends of Wasps Legends membership programmes
•          To promote and Grow The Wasps Legends Business Club
•          To secure additional funding resources (including Auction and Raffles items) required to support the Charity and build up its reserves
•          To obtain sponsorship as required for events and fundraising activities
•          To monetise the Wasps cycle club and grow the club


•          To be responsible for personal development as agreed with Foundation Chair
•          To be pro-active in achieving all personal objectives as agreed and as defined through the annual appraisal process

Key skills, experience and qualifications required:


•          Minimum of 3 years experience in any professional sector
•          Educated to Degree level or equivalent
•          Direct experience of preparing high quality written work in a professional environment
•          Experience of using a range of fundraising researching tools and techniques
•          Excellent numerical skills with demonstrable experience of budget setting and control
•          Excellent planning, organisational and presentation skills
•          Excellent Information technology skills
•          Proven track record in contract negotiation and management
•          Ability to understand budgets and summarise financial information accurately
•          Commitment, determination, enthusiasm and the ability to cope well under pressure
•          Confident and persuasive presentation and verbal communication skills, with ability to influence
•          Strong track record in commercial, administration and event management preferably in a sports club environment
•          Ability to work well as part of a small team of volunteer trustees
•          Ability to multitask, prioritise workload and meet deadlines at own initiative and with minimal supervision
•          Willingness to travel and to work unsociable hours where required
•          Commercially astute, forward thinker that brings added value to the team, with innovative ideas that could further enhance the charity’s commercial opportunities
•          Enthusiasm and motivation to fundraise
