Wasps Legends raise £95,000 for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, Action for A-T and Help for Heroes.
Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation, the past players network of Wasps men and women, amateur and professional, held their annual ‘Wasps Legends Rugby Golf Classic’ in La Manga in June 2019
The Wasps Legends Rugby Golf Classic over the last four years has brought together Rugby and other sporting legends to play in a two-day golf tournament to raise money for charitable projects close to the hearts Wasps Legends community.
Wasps Legends Serge Betsen, Mark Rogers, Peter Scrivener, Nabs Suma, Sol N’Jie, Rob Lozowski, Damian Cronin, Mark Denny were joined by other Legends of the game including Mike Roberts, Simon Halliday, Lee Mears and Michael Dods to name a few. We were also pleased to welcome back football legends Andy Dibble and a newbie this year in Liverpool ex striker Neil Mellor. All the teams were entertained by their sporting stars, which boasted caps from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the British and Irish Lions and the Barbarians.
Teams were also treated to three charity dinners, which all contributed to the charity fundraising over the weekend, which raised over £95,000. This puts the total fundraising amount over the past four years at £420,000 which puts us on track for our goal of raising £500,000 over five years.
The money raised will benefit the Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation main grant recipient charities – My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and Action for A-T, as well as many small grants. The Rugby Golf Classic has continued to support Help for Heroes as our specific beneficiary for the weekend and beneficiaries of the Help For Heroes life changing Pathfinder programme joined us over the weekend. This year we were joined by Andy Sellins and Alex Bassan from The Change Foundation who were raising funds and awareness for their Visual Impaired rugby programme. Alex and Andy ran a blindfolded nearest to the pin challenge which was a fantastic addition to the competition.
We’d like to thank our title sponsors, Deepbridge Capital LLP for their continued support of the event and our numerous other supporters including Skins Teamwear, Grove Wealth Management, Skybound Services, Artel Scaffolding, Alpha Rewards, Sporting Wine Club, Bates and Equimedia. A special mention to Your Golf Travel who have helped us host such a successful event over the years.
Next years event is on sale – 11th – 14th June 2020 and if you wish to reserve a team then please email firstname.lastname@example.org as we only have 4 teams left of the allocated 36 teams.
