Wasps Legends raise over £30,000 for Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Money raised is funding entertainment for poorly children in hospitals and magical wishes for seriously and terminally ill children.
Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation, the past players network of Wasps FC and London Wasps announced today that they have raised over £30,000 for Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Starlight brightens the lives of over half a million children every year by granting wishes for seriously and terminally ill children and providing entertainment in hospitals and hospices across the UK. Whether it’s meeting their pop idol, being a policeman for the day or even baking a cake for HM The Queen, every Starlight wish provides happy memories to treasure, whatever the future may hold.
Wasps Legends Chairman, Paul Clements, said: “Wasps Legends have been touring and running family fun days for the last seven years and this year we decided to have a more formal way for our past players to stay involved and support good causes at the same time. Our chosen charity this year is Starlight and we are very pleased to announce that we have raised over £30,000. This money is being put towards 3 Starlight Fun Centres, which are mobile entertainment units, at Milton Keynes Hospital and 4 at Stoke Mandeville as well as helping the charity to grant the dearest wishes of two very poorly children to go Disneyland and Florida.”
Wasps Legends Trustee, Peter Scrivener, added: “We launched the official Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation in November 2012 with the sole aim to raise funds for a chosen charity, which is at the heart of the Wasps Legends teams. This is a great achievement and we are very proud and excited to be entertaining Starlight at the Saracens v London Wasps game at the Allianz Park on 5th October to present them with their cheque, alongside some of the past Wasps players, including Andy Gomarsall, Damian Cronin, Will Green, Peter Scrivener, Paul Volley and Fraser Waters.”
Starlight Children’s Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Neil Swan, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation has chosen to support Starlight this year. Their generous contribution will help Starlight to bring fun and laughter into the lives of seriously and terminally ill children and we are immensely grateful for their support.”
