RIP Bob Collier and Allan Clain

9th July 2018

It is with great sadness that Wasps FC mourns the passing of two Vice Presidents, Allan Clain and Bob Collier.

Many tributes have been sent in about both Wasps.

Allan Clain, MB ChB Cape Town FRCS, passed away on 23rd June 2018. Consultant General Surgeon, Dudley Road Hospital, Birmingham.

A Vice President and life member of Wasps, Allan passed away at the grand age of 96. He was a true Wasp and many of us were treated or patched up by him over the years. In later years he was a great supporter, following the Wasps to Loftus Road and High Wycombe. One that sums up Allan was sent in by June Comley:

'An incident that sticks in the memory of Allan was at Repton Ave. Someone had swallowed their tongue at the far end of the pitch. All you heard was the players shout "Allan". From the front row of the VP stand he cleared the hoardings and sprinted down the pitch in his wellies.'

Allan requested that the funeral should be private family only, no flowers, any donations to Wasps Community Foundation c/o Malcolm Jones & Metcalfe, Berkhamsted.

Bob Collier, Vice President and former board member of Loftus Road Holdings plc (the holding company of QPR FC and Wasps RFC), passed away on 4th July 2018 after a long and hard fight against leukaemia.

Bob was a mighty fine Wasp -- on and off the field and in the back room -- and a back-row member of the unique Cambridge side that won all their games up to and including the Varsity Match itself, in the 1962/63 season.

Sally will let us have his funeral details in due course.

Both Wasps will be sadly missed.

The whole of the Wasps legends squad epitomised everything rugby stands for - community spirit, great banter, competition on the pitch and the making of some lasting friendships.
