  • Wasps Legends donate £2,500 to the Serge Betsen Academy.
  • Donation will support part of the purchase and build of the new centre in Bangangte.
Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation, the past players network of Wasps, men and women, amateur and professional announced today that they have issued a small grant award of £2,500 to the Serge Betsen Academy. This is in addition to a £2,500 small grant awarded in 2015.

The Serge Betsen Academy aims to raise funds for the relief of child poverty, sickness and distress in Cameroon by providing children’s centres education, healthcare and sports facilities. The organisation’s mission is to bring children together to see a future outside the poverty by providing access to simple, but critical, things like books, pre-school, health foods and places to play rugby and exercise.

The small grant supports the grant provided in 2015 and will be used to help fund a new centre in Bangangté, which will host more than 120 children. The new centre will expand the number of classrooms and school levels, have a computer room, walk-in medical centre and hold workshops for recently graduated students.

Odile Prévot-Mussat, Chief Executive Officer for the Serge Betsen Academy said of the announcement: "We are very grateful to Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation for their support in providing us with this grant. The work we are doing in Cameroon is very important to us and to Serge in improving the lives of the children. This new centre is a big undertaking for us as such a small charity but we are excited to be moving forward to building a new centre.”

Serge Betsen, Chairman and former Wasps and French International player added: "I am very pleased that the Wasps Legends are supporting my academy to help improve the lives of children in our centres in Cameroon.”

James Harding, Chairman of Wasps Legends Charitable Foundation said of the announcement: "We are very pleased to be supporting the Serge Betsen Academy with a second small grant. Serge is huge part of the Wasps Legends family and we are keen to ensure the success of his new children’s centre.”

The whole of the Wasps legends squad epitomised everything rugby stands for - community spirit, great banter, competition on the pitch and the making of some lasting friendships.
