Wasps Legends success with Goa Rugby

Wasps Legends success with Goa Rugby
Just over a year ago Dave & Bee Trotter set up a Just Giving Crowd Funding page going to support their efforts with Goa Rugby. Having received several generous anonymous donations shortly after circulating the news to the Wasps Legends network, they thought it might be of interest to provice an update on their recent successes.

Goa Rugby started in 2014 and Dave and Bee have successfully introduced Touch in this small state in India. There are now 4 regional clubs, each with senior sides of men, women and mixed, who also coach the local schools in their area as well. There are around 5,000 players throughout the state now, boys and girls, men and women playing in U10, U13, U17 and senior age groups. The plan is to start introducing full contact rugby 7s next season, leading on to 15s in the following years.

In December 2016 we sent a men and women's Goa State touch team to the 10th All India State Championships, the first time our players had been tested against anyone from the rest of India. Unbelievably the men won Gold and the women got Silver. There are some photos on the Goa Rugby Facebook page.

Goa Rugby 7sWith this success Goa Rugby are now starting to attract sponsors, Red Bull and Kingfisher lager are already in talks, so hopefully the sport will be self sustaining very soon.

Dave and Bee would like to thank everyone who has supported them in the early years, financially, in kind and by your well wishing. Its always great to know we have the Wasps rugby family behind us all the way.

The whole of the Wasps legends squad epitomised everything rugby stands for - community spirit, great banter, competition on the pitch and the making of some lasting friendships.
