Match Report: Guernsey XV v Wasps Legends Men

6th September 2014

Guernsey XV 31 36 Wasps Legends Men
The rugby festival, sponsored by Collas Crill, started with the Guernsey Colts playing Crowborough Colts followed by the Wasps Legends v Guernsey Siam Invitational side. Peter Scrivener and Andy Gomarsall were joined on the pitch by Damian Cronin, Paul Sampson, Paul Volley, Fraser Waters and Jonny Barrett, as well as a host of other past players. Both sides looked evenly matched and at times it was easy to forget there were some old, retired bodies displaying their skills of the past.

After 20 minutes, Wasps Legends broke the deadlock with Paul Volley going over in the corner. The Wasps pack dominated most of the first half with Rob Lowoski and Stew Davies also scoring. The half finished with Dickon Addis breaking the Legends defence to finish the half 5 - 15.

The second half saw Wasps Legends continued the scoring with tries from Luke Gilbert, Andy Gomarsall and Sean OíLeary (Gomarsall kicking three conversions). It was Guernsey who finished stronger as the Legends started to tire with four tries in quick succession, two coming from A. Bailey. The clock was against the Guernsey side as the game finished 31 - 36 to Wasps Legends.

Brian Quera from the Wooden Spoon in Guernsey said: "For the Wasps Legends to support a small island like Guernsey as they have is amazing. Itís brilliant that they started here and this time they have brought over some fantastic players, including some former British Lions.Ē

Peter Scrivener, Director of Rugby for Wasps Legends, commented: "This has been another fantastic weekend and today has been a fantastic day of rugby. Itís great for us to be invited back to support such great charities this weekend as well as to bring some old faces out of retirement. We are very proud to have helped raise over £25,000 for the charities. These weekends are about having some fun and renewing old friendships but our main aim is to continue to help raise valuable funds for our charity.Ē
